The Gospel in Romans part 5

Have you ever been judged by somebody before? Do you judge people yourself? Is all judging wrong? Did you grow up in a religious culture? Do you consider yourself to be a worshiper of the true God? Do you know His Law and His righteous decrees? If so, then examine yourself with the most heart-revealing chapter dealing with religious folk on the issue of hypocrisy. Romans chapter 2 begins with the words, "Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things."

'Natural High' by Herman Lee, Sr.

I don't need drugs, I'm on a natural high.
When you believe in God, He'll have you touching the sky.
The devil himself can't stand in your way.
Stay close to God and he'll have no room to play.
I believe that God watches over me.
A wise man knows what the blind can't see.
I read God's Word to ease my mind.
And when trouble comes my way, He's always on time.
God's Word the Bible is in plain view.
God wrote it down, and it's all coming true.

Visualize this, the countdown is here.
If your living without Jesus, it's time to show fear.
The fire that's coming is an everlasting one.
And on the same day, you'll be judged by God's Son.
Listen, don't panic, there's still hope for you.
When you repent of your sins, all things become new.
The world believes only in what they see.
I never saw Jesus, and yet He set me free.

"
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Working together with him, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain." (2 Corinthians 5:17-6:1 ESV).

Some notes on Luke 1:1-4 and Eyewitnesses

Here are some notes I wrote out while meditating on the first four verses in the gospel of Luke. Luke carefully investigated the events concerning all that happened to Christ by examining eyewitnesses and documenting an orderly account for his friend, "most excellent Theophilus." Theophilus means "Friend of God", so if God is your friend, then Luke's document is also for you, "so that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught."
This is also the study notes for our Friday night Bible study (The Well, see sidebar).

Judgment Day by Herman Lee, Sr.

The day of God's judgment will soon come.
Who can stand against it? No, not one.
On that day you'll face God's only Son.
With nothing to say, and no place to run.
And yet he gave you plenty of time.
You used it up with lustful living and crime.
So listen all sinners, look around.
And know in your heart it's the final countdown.
Think of what happened in Noah's day.
They believed when the flood came and took them away.
Christ can save you, you don't have to be a slave.
Satan will lead you to an early grave.
I thank God every day for turning me around.
Now I'm pointing the way so that He may be found.
God's wisdom tells you what a loser you are.
Stop, or end up in hell with a fallen star.
Satan is open for business, what a busy beast.
Give your heart to Jesus and know true relief.
In a sinner's heart there's an empty space.
That's why Jesus took the sinner's place.
People are calling on Jesus like never before.
The warning is clear, He will soon close the door.

"The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead." (Acts 17:30-31 ESV).

John A. Tomassetti

Here is a drawing of my late grandfather, John A. Tomassetti.

His funeral was Friday April 4, 2008 in Wooster, Ohio.
This drawing was done in Tokyo, Nov. 3, 1946.
That was over a year after my dad, Dominic John Anthony (little Junie), was born to John and Elizabeth Tomassetti on April 11, 1945.
My grandfather (pictured here) was born April 6, 1924, in Wooster, Ohio. His parents were Dominic and Elvira (Iannarelli) Tomassetti.

I say all this simply as a memorial to my late grandfather. I want to honor him here today.

My brother, Lee, read Ephesians 2:4-10 at the funeral, please read it again and trust in Jesus Christ alone as your ticket to heaven:
But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
